Red Sox watch

The Boys from Beantown fared well against Tampa Bay last night in the first of a critical three-game series, winning 13-5. We're now zero games behind the Devilrays, but mathematically in second place by .002 percentage points. Tampa Bay has a record of 88-60 while Boston's record is 89-61.

After this series in Tampa, each team's remaining schedule will determine which one takes the AL East title, and I fear that favors Tampa Bay...their last eight games will be against two pushovers in Baltimore and Detroit, while Boston will face Cleveland and the Evil Empire for their last seven games. The difference is that Boston plays their last two series at home while Tampa plays them on the road.
