According to the latest from Henry Kissinger, a US military victory is no longer possible in Iraq. Someone needs to clue him in: we've already won. We went in there along with the Brits in March 2003, and by May it was all over. Iraqi army defeated in detail, barbaric government removed. By any historical measure, mission accomplished.
There is no war in Iraq; that war ended with an overwhelming coalition victory in 2003. What's left now are spastic efforts to prop up a democratic government on behalf of a culture that wouldn't know democracy if it clubbed it on the head. Unfortunately, with the Democrats taking control of Congress, the Iraqis probably won't ever get a chance to learn.
