Been under a bit of a news blackout with work-related travel and just heard that Michael Steele is the new Republican National Committee chairman. Great news.
I met Steele last fall during the general election campaign and was highly impressed. Best of luck to you, Mr. Steele!

Agreed.
I was rooting for Ken Blackwell. He called for a 'shareholder revolt' within the Republican Party and wanted to move power, money, and influence to state organizations.
But Steele is a high caliber individual and will no doubt do a good job.
What, now we go and find our own "magic Negro"?
This is a very, very sad day for America. The election of Steele proves that the Republican party will not go in the direction they need to for the sake of our country. They can expect to be in the minority for quite some time to come.
Are you a true conservative or just a kool aid drinker? If you are a true conservative then you would listen to what this other true conservative has to say about him.

Steve Deace is so right about him.
He's a RINO. On that we can be clear. This proves that the Republican Party's move to the Left might be a permanent legacy of the Bush years.
Greg --
I'm not familiar with this Deace guy, probably because I don't listen to talk radio. Strict social cons are generally good conservatives, but not all good conservatives are strict social cons.
IMHO, the GOP needs to emphasize just a few things:
- Fiscal conservatism
- Strong national security
- Limited federal government
Steele embraces those themes enthusiastically.
The minute a politician rails against abortion and gay marriage, they're dismissed by too many voters who might otherwise listen to him.
McCain lost not because he wasn't a strict social con, but because he wasn't even a very good conservative.
