The not-so-secret secret about Ron Paul

There's a curious strategy in election primaries in that if you have dirt on a candidate from the opposition party, it's best to hold it. It does you no good to let the cat out of the bag during the primary season and wind up prematurely eliminating a potentially vulnerable candidate from the running. Instead, you continue to hold the information closely until after the guy is nominated. Only then do you release it -- noisily -- in the hopes that it'll be enough to torpedo the guy in the general election, thus ensuring sweet victory for your party.

This is just what's in play right now with Ron Paul. Ron Paul has accepted money from StormFront, a known racist white supremacist group, has posed for a picture with the leader of said group, and yet there's been next to nothing in the news about it. Sure...if you search on Yahoo or Google, you'll turn up an article or two about it. But one would think that when a man with aspirations to become President of the United States has friends like this it would be splashed all over the front pages of the various news outlets. But no, the Democrats and their media fan club don't want to let the cat out of the bag just yet. Better to see if he gets the Republican nod and only then unleash the hounds.

What mystifies me is why the other Republican candidates haven't been bringing this up. Ron Paul may not be polling all that well (except in meaningless Internet polls which his brain-dead supporters can swarm), but he's taking in an awful lot of money which might go to more worthy candidates.

Good God...

so if he refuses to give cash back to people who would use it for their destructive purposes and decides to spend it for his own purposes, and he takes a picture with someone at a public forum where most of the Republican Candidates are attending that has nothing INHERENTLY to do with racists... he is somehow a racist? This is guilt-by-association, plain and simple.

Five of Ron Paul's best friends in life are Milton Friedman, Murray Rothbard, Fredrich Hayek, Ludvig von Mises (his intellectual inspiration in economics), Aaron Russo, and Walter Williams. The first five of whom just happen to be Jewish, and the sixth is a prominent black economist who he has specifically said he would consider as a running mate if he got the nomination. Just this year, he has morned the losses of both Friedman and Russo, and he has written eulogies for them in his column.

Ron Paul is NOT a racist, white nationalist, white supremecist, white racialist, or whatever. He is a conservative Republican who believe in individual liberty for all and adhering to the Constitution. I am a Ron Paul supporter, and Fred Thompson (who you apparently support) was my second choice before I read this smear by you. I'm a lot less likely to support Fred in the event that Ron Paul doesn't make it than I was after reading this thread.

As far as his money going to other candidates: forget about. It's going to Ron Paul and Ron Paul only. There's a reason why he was able to raise his $18.5 million, and not Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, John McCain, or Fred Thompson.

Yup, you're right. Guilty by association.

Did you even read my response, in which I detailed the long list of very good Jewish friends and intellectual influence of Dr. Paul? And that I also included the black economist Walter Williams he has said specifically he would take as a running mate?

Ron Paul is not a racist or a white nationalist. Period. Please stop this. You do Fred Thompson no good by stooping to this level. I'm not claiming that all Ron Paul supporters have been perfect in their treatment of other Republican candidates, but that doesn't mean that you should just throw smears out there. Although I strongly suspect that your smear has nothing to do with the behavior of a small segment of obnoxious Ron Paul supporters, but rather because you hate him due to his views on foreign policy that diverge from yours.

Here's a list of photographs of him with all types of different people:

Ron Paul with a black woman, embracing her and smiling! Ron Paul must have a thing for brown sugar!

Ron Paul with someone who I suspect is a pothead. I guess that makes Ron Paul a pothead. I mean, look at the smile on his face! He's gotta be high!

Is Ron Paul converting to Judaism? Man! All of his Jewish friends and economic influences must have REALLY rubbed off on him!

UH OH! IS RON PAUL CONVERTING TO HINDUISM?

This is as slimey as politics gets. You represent Senator Thompson, a good, honest, decent man, very poorly with this vicious attack.

I read your first comment completely, but both your comments show that you didn't really read my original post very well. This was hardly a "vicious attack" on Paul. In fact, if it wasn't for his isolationist foreign policy ideas and the fact that he enjoys widespread support among this country's racist dirtbags, I'd give him very serious consideration.

No matter what one thinks of Paul and his positions on the issues, the enthusiasm for his candidacy shown by people like those at Stormfront has to be troubling.

Because Ru Paul is a non-issue.

Yeah, I realize Ron Paulsen is a non-factor, at least if polls (real ones, not Internet polls) are to be believed. It just sets my teeth on edge that so many are letting him slide on this issue.
